‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free,
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain’d,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be asham’d,
To turn, turn will be our delight
‘Till by turning, turning we come round right.

  1. I truly admire your many and varied commentaries on matters affecting the Catholic Church, but can I, in all charity, make a heartfelt plea for you to leave the poetry to William McGonagall.

  2. Happy Thanksgiving, Jack, to you and your family. Thanks for your insights and sharing. You are a gift to so many in the church. Nancy

    1. Yes it really belongs to our American cultural heritage…….when I was a university studnet we often (I often) sang it on Thanksgiving. Many kind regards Jack
